In practical terms, hail strikes that would shatter natural slate or shred asphalt shingles typically leave only cosmetic marks on synthetic slate. That rating qualifies most Lake Norman homeowners for 5% to 30% premium discounts from their NC homeowner-insurance carrier.

Fire: All four leading synthetic slate brands carry a Class A fire rating — the highest available — when installed over standard underlayment and decking.
